Des Taylor’s March Angling Tips

Late Season River Fishing – The Fish Are Still Feeding

As usual just as the river season is about to shut the conditions are coming good, the river season shuts march 14th and at this time rainfall is less, the days are longer and spring temperatures are showing form.

Late Season River Fishing – The Fish Are Still Feeding

I know there are less than two weeks left of the season but believe me the fishing can be some of the best of the year and some of the river fish like barbel are at their biggest indeed only today I have heard of the River Severn record barbel being caught recently at over 20lbs, what a fish.

But it’s not only barbel that will be feeding for on bread and cheese paste big chub are there for the taking and on the float with maggots as bait species like dace, chub, perch and grayling are all there willing to feed after the recent flood conditions.

The hard part is getting out the mood of the river season is already over and you have put your gear away till the 16th when the river season opens again but a bit of effort and a trip to the tackle shop for some fresh bait will see you catching fish, I promise.

I love this time of year because spring is showing us new life and better things on the way and that’s certainly the case for the serious angler.
