Those Big Carp Will Soon Be Spawning

It’s that time of year again when the temperature of the water reaches that critical point that tells the carp that its mating time.

Those Big Carp Will Soon Be Spawning

Days before this yearly event the carp fishing can be spectacular but be warned when they are racing around the water in groups there is only one thing on their mind and are almost impossible to catch but most fisheries as soon as they see any spawning activity they will shut the water till this ritual is over and rightly so.

Only the other day I was on a carp water and was thinking this is the last session this side of spawning and sure enough I saw a couple of big fish near the surface acting “ a little strange” but I would say another week or two before they actually spawn the main reason for the delay being the cold nights we are having of late.

But it didn’t stop fish feeding with me catching a 40lb mirror Carp just on midday that looked as though it was carrying a little spawn. But it fought well and as the photo shows in excellent condition.

But now it will be giving the carp a rest to recover from their spawning activities and getting my gear ready and baiting up river swims ready for the 16th of June the official start to the river season.

I’ll be on the boat on the Warwickshire Avon with my old mate Wayne Langston trying to catch perch and Zander and on the evening after the big barbel that inhabit this lovely river. In-between times I will be having the odd Tench session and catching them on the float my favourite way of catching this species and if I have time the odd session after a big Crucian Carp another favourite species of mine.

But one things for sure there is still plenty to do at this time of year just get out there and get catching.
