Why Late Season Angling Can Be the Best of the Year
I always say to anglers not to put their gear away in March for although the weather in late February and early March can be cold, windy and raining the rest of March and in particular the last week of the river season can be great sport.
And so it proved for me again this year with Pike from the Warwickshire Avon not big fish but it was just great to get back out there on the boat, then a carping trip that I fancied because of a mild spell and a southernly wind and it proved a good decision with 12 fish falling to my rods three of them over 20lbs and I was home before dark, they were feeding hard for I used a kilo of boilies and 3 kilos of my soaked pudding mix, I would have used more but I ran out of bait towards the end of the session.
Then I headed over to the mighty river Trent to see if I could catch a few of those big Trent barbel which again I fancied because the river had come down nicely after major floods in the area indeed was perfect on arrival.
After baiting up with pellets and groundbait and using a feeder loaded with broken boilies plugged at the end with fishmeal groundbait I had take’s from the start and ended with half a dozen big barbel, I was over the moon with that result.
Whilst over on the Trent I thought it would be rather rude not to cast a bait out for Zander the next day and sure enough they were feeding hard as well, I told you this time of year is really worth getting out there.
Ok if you missed this exciting fishing this year make a mental note not to get too despondent in January and February next year and keep your powder dry till the middle of March and make the most of some of the best fishing of the year.
