Perch Fishing in Winter

The carp in lots of waters are feeding less now winter has arrived, they have not stopped feeding completely but they have slowed down enough to allow the water to go clearer making it ideal for sight feeders like perch.

Perch Fishing in Winter

It’s this time of year that I really like to start my lure fishing in earnest for this species and drop shot, jig and ned fishing really comes into its own. But also, small livebaits if allowed on your water are still a top bait especially for those bigger perch.

I personally like to get to a perch water about 1pm and fish right up to dark and find that the best feeding time is around 3 to 4 o’clock at this time of year. It’s really strange that you can be fishing all methods for a few hours without even a knock and then suddenly as the light starts to fade bites seem to come from almost every swim as those perch start to investigate every inch of the water for food.

I love those really clear bright winter sunny days which the perch seem to hate that is until the sun drops in the sky and then because they have not fed all-day they will turn on and take most methods.

The feeding period may only be 30 minutes some days but you can take three or for big perch in that short feeding spell.

Give those perch a go right now for conditions are perfect.
